Delete Your Account

You have the right to delete your Gayborhood account and all associated personal data at any time. This page explains how to delete your account, exactly what data is removed, what may be retained, and how long the process takes.

⚠️ Account deletion is permanent

Once your account is deleted, it cannot be recovered. All your data will be permanently removed. Please make sure you want to proceed before confirming deletion.

Option 1: Delete From the App

The fastest way to delete your account is directly within the Gayborhood app:

Steps:

Open the Gayborhood app
Go to the Me tab (bottom right)
Tap Delete Account
Read the confirmation prompt carefully
Tap Confirm to permanently delete your account

Your account and data will be deleted immediately upon confirmation.

Option 2: Request Deletion by Email

If you are unable to access the app (e.g., lost device, locked out of account), you can request account deletion by email:

Please include in your email:

Subject line: “Account Deletion Request”
The email address associated with your Gayborhood account
Confirmation that you understand deletion is permanent and irreversible

We will verify your identity and process your deletion request within 30 days of receiving it, as required by applicable privacy laws.

What Data Is Permanently Deleted

When your account is deleted, the following data is permanently removed from our servers:

Account credentials	Email address, hashed password, authentication tokens
Dating profile	Display name, bio, date of birth, age, body type, height, weight, position, tribes, looking for preferences
Photos & media	All public profile photos, private album photos, and media you uploaded
Location data	GPS coordinates, location history, distance preferences
Messages	All direct messages, chat media, spark interactions, and conversation history
Community content	Posts, comments, reactions, and engagement history
Tribe memberships	All tribe and community memberships
Social interactions	Stars (favorites), blocks, profile views, reports you submitted
Preferences & settings	Dating filters, notification preferences, unit preferences (imperial/metric)
Push notification tokens	Device push tokens and notification registration data
Spotlight profile	Creator or business spotlight profile, if applicable

What May Be Retained

In limited circumstances, certain data may be retained after account deletion as required by law or for legitimate safety purposes:

Safety & enforcement records	If your account was banned for violating our Terms or Community Guidelines, we retain limited data to prevent re-registration and protect other users	As long as necessary for safety
NCMEC / law enforcement reports	Evidence preserved for child safety investigations or active law enforcement requests, as required by U.S. federal law (18 USC § 2258A)	As required by law
Transaction records	If applicable, purchase/payment records retained for tax and accounting compliance	As required by law
Aggregated / anonymized data	De-identified, aggregated analytics data that cannot be linked back to you	Indefinitely

⚠️ Important notes

Messages sent to other users may still appear in their conversation history. We cannot delete data stored on other users’ devices (e.g., screenshots).
CDN caches for photos and media may take a short period to fully purge after deletion.
Backup systems may retain encrypted copies for a limited period before automatic purging.

You will receive an email confirmation once your account has been deleted (for email-based requests).

Before You Delete

Before deleting your account, please consider:

This is irreversible. You will not be able to recover your account, profile, photos, messages, or any other data.
Active subscriptions — deleting your account does not automatically cancel any active subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. You must cancel subscriptions separately through your app store account settings.
Alternative options — if you just need a break, you can log out of the app without deleting your account. Your profile will stop appearing to other users after a period of inactivity.

Your Privacy Rights

Account deletion is one of several privacy rights available to you. Depending on your location, you may also have the right to:

Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Correct — update inaccurate personal data through your profile settings
Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
Restrict processing — request that we limit how we use your data
Object — object to certain types of processing
